I got my flu shot today. Now I feel as if I'm getting sick. It doesn't make sense.

I want to participate in my life and forget the world for a few years.
I want to travel and forget the world for a few months.
I want to go up the mountains and forget the world for a few days.
I want to read a book and forget about the world for a few hours.
Three meetings with a headache = cranky. Pasta and banana for lunch = calm.

zzz

Awake but want to stay in bed. Why am I so tired at 6:48 a.m.?

cold summer, hot fall

What is going on here? We had freezing days in the summer and now we are broiling in the fall. This morning, it was 67 degrees at 6:30 and 84 degrees two hours later! So much for working in the backyard.

julia day: let the glasses do the reading

My mom was reading the newspaper one day when my three-year-old niece Julia decided to get involved.

Julia:   (Pointing at a picture with its accompanying story.)  Mama, basahin mo 'tong d'yaryo.

Mama:  Ay, di ko mababasa 'yan, mamaya na.

J:  Bakit?

M:  Wala kasi akong salamin.

J:  Yung salamin ko na lang (her Tweetie Bird sunglasses) 'pakuha mo, at ako na lang babasa!

~

Julia:  (Pointing at an article's photograph) Mama, can you read the paper for me?
Mama:  I can't right now.  I'll do it later.
J:  Why not?
M:  I don't have my eyeglasses.
J:  (Thinking of her Tweetie Bird sunglasses)  What about my eyeglasses? Go get it and I'll read this myself.

julia day: english speaking

My cousin Contessa brought her four-year-old daughter Yokie to my mom's house.  When my three-year-old niece Julia saw her, she asked my mom to get her off her chair so she could play with Yokie, who speaks English.

Julia:  Yokie, game tayo.

Yokie:  Do you speak English?

Julia:  (Without batting an eyelash) Oo.... One, two, three, four!

julia day: poop

My sister Carmina and her husband John were in the car with my little niece, Julia.  Something fell out of my sister's purse.

Carmina:  Ay, shit!

Julia:  (imitating her mother) Ay, shit!

C:  'Wag, masama 'yon.  'Wag mo ko tularan.

J:  Ano ba 'yon?

C:  Basta masama.

J:  Ano nga?

C:  Ibig sabihin nu'n, tae.  'Wag mong gayahin.  Masama.

J: Opo.

A little while later, somebody suddenly crossed the street and John had to slam on the brakes, surprising my sister and Julia.

Julia:  Ay, tae!

~

Again, NPS, this loses something in translation.  But here goes:

Carmina:  Ay, shit!

Julia:  (imitating her mother) Ay, shit!

C:  Don't say it, it's bad.  Don't imitate me.

J:  What does it mean?

C:  It's bad.

J:  What is it?

C:  It means "tae".  Don't imitate me.  It's bad.

J: Okay.

A little while later, somebody suddenly crossed the street and John had to slam on the brakes, surprising my sister and Julia.

Julia:  Ay, "tae"!
